Well Established
A proven track record of looking after our clients
Broom Reid & Harris is one of the longest-established hearing care practices in the UK. We could not have achieved this without looking after our clients throughout the years and always striving to constantly improve what we do.
Continuity of Care
The present Practice Owners, Curtis and Rowan Alcock, are the son-in-law and daughter of the previous practice owner, Roger Evans. Our longest-serving member of staff, Joy Conibeer, worked for Ron Silmon, the Practice Owner before that. He joined Broom Reid & Harris in 1940, and still keeps in contact.
Years of Experience
This continuity of care also enables us to build on a strong collective experience of solving problems on behalf of our clients. It enables us to draw on the lessons, experiences and solutions of the past, and use them to enrich our approach to today's problems.
Completely Independent
A Genuine Interest in Our Clients
One of the best things we find about being independent is that we can genuinely put our clients first. There's no head office in the background telling us how to do our job. No political agenda dictating how things should be. It's just us, and our clients! It means that each of clients is treated as the individual they are, and it's up to us to do our best for them.
Choosing the Right Solution for You
We have learnt over the years that people's individuality also affects what hearing technology they'll get on with. That's why we never agree to restrictive tie-ins with manufacturers. To do the best job for our clients, we need the freedom to choose the best solution for you from all the models and manufacturers available at the time. After all, hearing is one of the most important senses we have, and we believe it would be wrong for us to deny you the best opportunity for your hearing because of an agreement with a particular manufacturer.
No staff on commission
No member of staff at Broom Reid & Harris is on commission or are given "sales targets" which they need to meet each month in order to receive a fair wage. This means that they always have the freedom to give you "best advice", doing what's best for you, rather than what's best for them. (This is a question you might like to ask other providers.)
Members of the AIHHP.org
Broom Reid & Harris is currently Devon's only member of AIHHP.org, the Association of Independent Hearing Healthcare Care Professionals, a professional body established to promote the highest standards in private hearing healthcare for the benefit of the consumer. Members must adhere to a strict code of practice and commit to ongoing education, over and above those required by the Health Professions Council and the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists. Furthermore, an AIHHP Centre of Excellence must achieve and maintain a high specification level, which is continuously reviewed to ensure it is always setting the highest standards.
Doing What's Best
It starts with our philosophy…
Our philosophy is summed up in the question we're always asking: "Are we doing the very best we can for this person's hearing?" Everyone of us takes our clients' hearing seriously, realising the responsibility they place on us to do the very best for their hearing. If we can do what's best for their hearing, their hearing will do its best for them. Our clients must be confident that they are coming to Broom Reid & Harris because nobody does it better.
… which Drives our Commitment to Ongoing Development…
Because of this philosophy, it is essential to us that we are committed to ongoing development, both as a Practice and as individuals. As individuals it means ongoing training and education, from keeping abreast of the latest technology, to furthering our knowledge of hearing and hearing-related issues, to implementing best practice. As a Practice, it means looking at the way we do things and reviewing our equipment and facilities. The better equipped we are, as individuals and as a Practice, the better that 'best' will be.
…which Results in Best Advice & Practice
We like to explain everything in a way you can understand, without using jargon, so you can make informed decision about the right course of action for your hearing, based on your own individual needs and circumstances. We'll spend as much time as you need, answering your questions and exploring possibilities, so that between us we can do what's best for your hearing.
And There For You
A Door That's Always Open
Don't forget, we're a local, family-run practice – which means you know how to find us if you have any problems. Remember, we can only help you solve a problem if we know about it! And we don't just consider this our responsibility, we actually enjoy it! The door's always open, so make the most of it!
